News today that the con man who bought the Jenivore in the name of a charity has pleaded guilty has in a way stopped the story of how it is the Conwy Council Tax payer that has ultimately lost £140 thousand.
If the council had practised due diligence in the first place the money the council has had to pay back to the Welsh Assembly Government would never have been lost.
According to a source the Council were supposed to have given the money that was in a grant form supplied by The WAG to this chap in stage payments as he developed the Jenivore Hotel in Llandudno, the hotel that was owned by an old friend of the blog, instead of doing this as it should have done it gave the chap the whole amount in one go as it was fast approaching a deadline for the cash to have been spent on this particular scheme.
The result was that the chap spent the lot and there was nothing left to show for the money.
The ARSEmbly were understandably cheesed off that the money had not been handled by the council as it should have been and in view of this demanded the money be repaid to the ARSEmbly leaving the council taxpayer £140 Thousand light.
What we don't know is whether any council officer has been disciplined for failing so miserably in his job that has cost the taxpayer so much money.
If there was a councillor worth their salt, or if Weyman was still there we would have found this out before, but no the council wish to sweep this cock up under the carpet and say no more about it.
But be assured this story is correct and it is the Conwy Council Taxpayer who is most out of pocket here.
Anybody fancy dropping the council a line?
I think I may submit a FOI request seeing this gross incompetence has cost the taxpayer so much money is such cash strapped times.

Interesting to see you've made another enemy, this time a local taxi driver from Fairways, what have you actually done this time?
Have you said anything about alliance taxis by any chance?
This guy is pretty much on his uppers and has a grudge against the local police support officers, bit like you really.
Seems a mate of Smith junior.
When will the council eventually see that "grants" are not free money that is given to us from some non existent Father Christmas! Somebody, somewhere has to pay for it - usually us!
How often do we here that "it's grant money and all we have to do is match fund it!" for some totally wasteful white elephant scheme or handout. Who do they think provides this grant money, the fairies!
They never say "it's money from the central pot of money we've all been forced to contribute to!" do they!
In this area, where there is a scam it usually involves Conwy Council ,someone's council mates and either rate pates , Grants ,Uk lottery money .
The private sector sem to have grown wise and temd to steer clear
The officers and councillors involved should be opaying this money out of their own pocket. If, that is, there was any justice in the world today. There isn't so we have to pay. No wonder it's another 5% rise in council tax when over the border it is frozen.

The Weekly News carried this story today. However they left out most of the facts. The following points were NOT mentioned.
WAG provided the grant
CCBC were supposed to manage it.
WAG are taking the money back.
The Council Tax payers of Conwy will be paying the bill.
Funny that, does anyone know why the Weekly News missed all this out of the report.

I wish The Council would throw money at Unllais and other charities that would actually use the money for a good cause rather than their own self gain, but we just get snubbed financially, it's who you know in the Council,
CVSC Charities Commission accounts 2011/12.Budget 595K grants to projects £50k. previous accounting year £105k grants to projects.
