More on the Temple of Waste.

I am beginning to wonder what with overspends etc if this Chief Executive is much good.
Would it have been better to have had another person from away who had not been a career council solicitor all his working life bar a period of months?
Many do say that if a solicitor was worth his salt he would not have spent his career working for a council, let alone one like Conwy.

"Dear Oscar,
love the site, I share your concerns over the Temple of Waste, as  @@@@@@@@@@@ thought you might like to know a few juicy facts about Conwy County Council and How it LOVES TO WASTE MONEY ,

number
1/ The council are paying for Broadband at home for many of its staff,

2/They are paying for Laptops at home for many of its staff.

3/They are paying for Telephone lines at home for many of its staff,

4/They are paying for photocopiers at home for many of its staff,

5/The training budget has already been spent in many departments, leaving nothing left,

6/Various staff continue to fiddle accounts, ie

Milliage,Journeys faked etc

Hotel expenses and trips away even when there is no need to stay over

7/ Unfair recruitment of staff, ie Someone is already being lined up for one of the senior posts in Dinerth road, and the existing manager has not even left, but The new woman is getting ready for the posts, similar shady practises continue all over the county,

Ill keep you posted with more

Hearsay. No doubt warranted. Evidence is a different thing. and surely the place to send this is to internal audit and Iwan Davies?

I deal with officers at Denbighshire who regularly work from home. Recieved an email from a Flintshire officer sent at 2108 last night. Ever heard of the internet folks? its sort of revolutionising the way things are done - in my business at least.

Its 2013 and i reckon you could get rid of 25-30% of the office space and site based costs at a stroke if you made the strategy one of hot-desking and home home working, use IT effectively and created a culture of trust and responsibility. That itself takes investment and im sure the whingers will then moan thay they cant walk into the office and see the person immediately. Balance that against the social and economic impacts of reduced spend and footfall to business near the offices... Oh, and then what will you actually do with Bodlondeb and the Civic?? We're not exactly falling over with people wanting to invest in all this new office space are we? Tough choices and never quite that clear cut.

for those working for in non public sector, do you work at home using your personal phone? your laptop? and of course you dont get a fully expensed car and fuel card do you that you never use for personal journeys do you??

Good point Anon 1815. Isn't a third of the Arsembly Building at the Junction empty so that seems to confirm the issue of surplus office space. If the suggestions about landlines etc in the original post have some merit surely an FOI would confirm the figures.

What! Too much council office space already in Conwy? Are you mad?

Wickiel 17hat we need is more space not less

That is why Conwy council " had been going around "compulsory purchasing" sites to develop Council offices ?

Hotel bills really!
Might be a good idea to check who were stay at some of these hotels at the same time as the council employees ....
obvious any check needs to be done someone remote from the council.
They would also need a knowledge of both other hotel guests and council employee's area of business ...
Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink say no more

The writing is on the wall for most county councils including Conwy .

They have become a real burden to business and residents alike.

Politicians have used this level of government in an failed attempt resolve long term economic and socials problems.
We the rate payer are now "lumbered"with councils that have added to the economic and socials problems they were evolved to cure.
It is time to seriously consider to down size ,merge or even dissolve County Council in Wales
it is time to consider reducing the income gained from business and residents which finances County councils

Go are the days that increasing the number employed in the public sector just to reduce unemployment .
We simply can't afford such silly practices anymore ,
Too many public sector worker kill off private sector jobs
